Welcome to our deep dive into the SAGE project! Over the course of our upcoming posts, we will be exploring the specific Work Packages (WPs) that make up our initiative, breaking down exactly how we plan to revolutionize education with Artificial Intelligence.
Today, we are kicking things off with the foundation that makes all our future work possible: Work Package 1.
Work Package 1: Project Management and Core Values
Work Package 1 (WP1) focuses heavily on Project Management. It serves as the operational engine that ensures the SAGE project runs smoothly, stays strictly on schedule, and adheres to its set objectives, as well as EU values, the rule-of-law, and ethics.
To guarantee seamless implementation and high-quality results, WP1 is built upon several vital pillars:
Expert Coordination and Agile Management: The project’s coordination relies on well-established Prince 2 and Agile management methodologies. UEKat takes the lead in appointing the core project manager and handling risk management, while dedicated bodies like the Project Management Team and the Communication and Dissemination Team ensure clear responsibilities. To keep communication flowing, the consortium meets monthly online and holds four on-site meetings.
Rigorous Quality Assurance: High standards are continuously monitored. The Italian partner organization leads the internal quality assurance, measuring the quality of project processes every six months through online questionnaires.
Unwavering Commitment to Inclusivity: Inclusiveness is designated as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) within the project. We are designing all activities to ensure accessibility, gender balance, and GDPR compliance, with a special focus on disadvantaged learners—including students with learning disadvantages like dyslexia or dyscalculia, as well as those from geographically disadvantaged regions. Additionally, all WP results will be made available under an open access license to ensure no barriers exist beyond the project duration.
Green Practices and Sustainability: The SAGE project actively works on „squaring the circle” of digital development and the green transition. We prioritize energy-efficient AI use, low-carbon computing solutions, and sustainable digital learning methodologies. Everyday green practices are also implemented, such as exchanging digital rather than printed materials, utilizing green travel options for meetings, and communicating efficiently to reduce unnecessary emails—acknowledging that each email generates about 0.3 g of CO2.
Fostering Civic Engagement: WP1 strongly encourages active participation in local communities. Academics will support students in connecting with business environments and establishing civic initiatives. For example, students participating in internships will be encouraged to inquire about companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, tying real-world social engagement back into our educational frameworks.
